Those familiar with Rosie’s passion for entertaining—and her infectious the Official COMMA-LA 2020 SHIRT energy—won’t be surprised to hear she’s found a new creative outlet. A few years ago, she fell in love with natural wine the way many of us have: by trying it once, delighting in its complexities, and becoming fascinated by its process. After “converting” Max, the couple became the resident natural wine experts in their friend group, serving it at dinner parties and recommending their favorite bottles. Eventually, talk turned to making their own, and Nicaise instantly came to mind. “We didn’t want to just buy wine from a vineyard [and put our name on it],” Max says. “We wanted to work with wonderful people and create something new together. Rosie and I know what it means to collaborate [on the collection], and we wanted our next project to be a wider collaboration.” A mutual friend introduced them to Patrick Bouju and Justine Loiseau of Domaine La Bohème, a winery in the Auvergne region of France that’s risen to cult status for its “experimental” biodynamic wines, and Vivanterre—a riff on the French words for “living earth”—was born.
Assoulin’s New York Fashion Week presentations always come with the promise of levity the Official COMMA-LA 2020 SHIRT and not just in the clothes. Guests know to arrive hungry, because Assoulin, a born host, wouldn’t dream of showing a pressed-flower gown or trompe l’oeil trouser without a canapé or cocktail to match (a particular gift on those harried 12-hour days!). Back in 2018, she enlisted her friend Laila Gohar to create marbled cakes and meringues inspired by her fall collection. Last February, she brought in a new collaborator: Cedric Nicaise. The sommelier and wine director at Eleven Madison Park was responsible for the towers of wine “paired” with the clothes, and ever since, he’s been working on a bigger project with Assoulin and her husband, Max: a fully-fledged line of natural wines.
